Self-Determination Theory and Online Learning in University: Advancements, Future Direction and Research Gaps

Self-Determination Theory (SDT) has been studied to comprehend human motivation, particularly in education. Numerous studies have conducted at universities regarding online learning as a technology mitigate the effects of COVID-19. On basis these expansions, however, there is knowledge gap what constitutes advancement, future direction, and research gaps SDT university learning. This new systematic literature review analyzed 49 articles using PRISMA bridge gap. Currently, does not extensively integrate other theories models, but trend toward acceptance models cognitive theories. Future should incorporate additional factors such intrinsic external regulation, identified amotivation addition autonomy, competence, relatedness.
